The effects of chemical composition, metallographic structure, mechanical and physical properties of the workpiece materials mentioned above on grindability. In grinding process, various factors affecting grindability should not be considered in isolation, but should be analyzed and studied comprehensively. The main factors affecting grindability are found out under various specific processing conditions. Grasping these main factors, considering comprehensively and considering other factors, according to the grindability process characteristics, reasonable selection of grinding tool characteristics and grinding process parameters can achieve the purpose of improving grinding quality and grinding productivity. Therefore, several main performance indicators (hardness, tensile strength, elongation, punching) that affect grindability in commonly used FERROCARBON alloy materials can be adopted. The impact value and thermal conductivity are divided into 10 grades according to the change of quantity. Table 3-7 serves as the basis for measuring the grindability of materials. According to the mechanical and physical properties of the workpiece material, the corresponding grindability classification number of the material can be found from Table 3-7, and the main factors affecting the grindability can be seen, so appropriate measures can be taken.
The commonly used mechanical and physical properties of metal materials are listed in tables 3-8 to 3-11.
The general steps for grindability analysis of workpiece materials by grading method are as follows:
1. According to the grades and manufacturing methods of workpiece materials (cold rolling or hot rolling), the state of heat treatment (normalizing, tempering, quenching, tempering or annealing), and the corresponding hardness, strength, plasticity, toughness and thermal conductivity.
2. According to the above-mentioned indicators, the corresponding grinding processing grade is drawn out from Table 3-7 and arranged in sequence.
3. Analyse the indexes of hardness, strength, plasticity, toughness and thermal conductivity of materials in turn. For the numbers above 4 levels, we should focus on the analysis and link them with other indicators. According to their characteristics, we can find the internal relationship with grinding and grinding conditions, and then find out the main factors affecting grindability.
4. According to the above analysis, taking into account various factors, choose suitable abrasive characteristics and grinding specifications.
